Visit The Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere, Hervey Bay
If you’re visiting the town of Hervey Bay, the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere is well worth a visit. Located in the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery building, this unique free attraction delves into the natural beauty and diversity of the Great Sandy Biosphere with eyecatching interpretive panels and displays.
Immerse yourself in an underwater encounter with the magnificent humpback whales that visit Hervey Bay each year and be dwarfed by a full-sized whale skeleton reproduction. Progress through the Sphere and be amazed by the natural wonders of Fraser Island with informative interactive displays and a theatre experience with trip inspiring imagery.
In the dedicated Children’s section, the little ones can get hands-on with interactive challenges and storytelling. Visitors to the Discovery Sphere will also learn about the history and culture of the local indigenous, the Butchulla People, and marvel at their intricate artwork celebrating Dreamtime legends.
The lovely ladies at the information kiosk in the foyer are more than happy to provide brochures and information on the local area and the gift shop features beautiful and unique locally crafted keepsakes to take home with you. Visitors also have access to the Regional Gallery displaying the magnificent pieces of talented local artists.
Before you leave, be sure to have your photo taken alongside Hervey Bay's iconic whale, Nala. This impressively beautiful whale statue outside the building is twelve metres high and expertly crafted. While the Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere is a free attraction, gold coin donations for the ongoing maintenance and expansion of the displays are welcomed.
